About

Brilliant value wine in the style of a Priorat at a fraction of the price and ready to drink.  Very mineral, it’s from the same grapes and terroir as Priorat but is lighter and fresher.

Tasting notes

Impressively complex and elegant, with savoury, ripe, sweet red fruit, mineral, smokey herbs, oak, bitter chocolate and earthy aromas.  Fairly full-bodied, with zesty acidity and firm tannins.

Grapes

35% Garnacha, 25% Carinena, 25% Tempranillo and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon

Vine age

Garnacha, Carinena and Tempranillo are 15-40 years old and Cabernet 5-10 years old

Vineyards

The fruit for Mas Collet comes from a selection of vineyards near the village from 150-450m altitude; the soil in the lower vineyards is alluvial while the higher vineyards and all terraces and slopes are on poor, mineral, stony soil based with some granite and slate; hot, dry Mediterranean climate

Yield

45 hl/ha

Harvest

Hand harvested from early September until mid-October.

Winemaking

Destemmed, varieties fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, temperatures controlled to a relatively cool 26-29ºC to maintain the freshness and purity of fruit flavour; total cuvaison between 8 and 16 days

Maturation

9 months in equal parts new to 5 year old French and American oak barriques and then in concrete tank for 6 months

Bottling

Very lightly filtered and fined; April 2007; 76,000 bottles
